On Sunday morning the alarm clock to see what special place Jacques Cousteau once again under water had been an aquarium and now a pond. It all started somewhere at the age of 10. I was and am still often found on the waterfront or in the water. Totally fascinated by the (under) water world, that's me!

When I was 1 of my first holidays in Rhodes in Greece for the first underwater diving equipment went I knew for sure. I had to get my diving license. Wow what diving is cool! And so I did a few months later I had my PADI Open Water and my next holiday to Hurghada in Egypt this time, already booked. Upon return, I walked over with enthusiasm,
but could only partially transferred. I finally had no pictures to share. Before the next dive vacation I had a camera with underwater housing and saved up so I could show others how it looked underwater and why I was so excited!

My equipment

My first camera I bought in 2000. An Olympus C5060-WZ. At that time a top compact camera. Housed in an Ikelite housing and then another without external flash. I have beautiful pictures with shot and he's been along to equally beautiful destinations around the world, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya. Where you're not a hobby brings. We have been through a lot together. Quick was not my first camera, but I could finally capture what I underwater
all met and share photos with others and that's the point in underwater photography!

During a dream trip to Sulawesi in Indonesia, the Olympus camera is already on the 2nd day of diving piece. The delicate zoom mechanism was horrified and so the camera could not focus. I could cry. I had saved hard for the camera, underwater housing and this special trip to one of the most special places on earth. The journey and the dives when I've made were great. The images are only in my head. The camera was made and is still a couple years but I had already discovered that if I wanted to capture the real action without too need to tread carefully, there really is a robust and especially faster camera was needed. By the proper print delay
my first camera was the fish often left before the camera was ready to image capture ... A dose of luck and some knowledge of the object to be photographed made me do a few nice pictures could make, but I certainly not many moments as intended or not, can lay down.

Looking for a more robust and faster camera ... so I sold my first camera over the Internet. Soon after I bought my 2nd camera, a Nikon D70s. What was that tell a difference! Press releases and then directly set the time as I really meant. This was a revolution. It provided more direct and well-ere pictures.
Meanwhile, I have been in possession of my 3rd camera with underwater housing. A Nikon D7000. Again in a Ikelite underwater housing and now with 2 flash / video lights. Bought at Scubacam for their good service and price. Are the photos again become better? The step from Olympus to the Nikon D70s was the immediate response of the Nikon D70s a big one. The step from the D70s to the Nikon D7000 was slightly smaller. Or not? The Nikon D7000 has almost 3 times as many pixels, has a full HD video function, a larger viewfinder, has a better display ... Yes even this move shows once more than worth it. Especially the addition of film is a nice extra. Rather difficult to decide whether I'm shooting to ...

My advice

Have lots of fun especially at the lower water. A nice picture is fine, but without the time to have consciously experienced look to it and yet different "looks" the picture for others less often. Have an eye for detail and define, evaluate the results of your photo to keep all under water on the basis of the image histogram, adjust settings when necessary and push again if the histogram is not the right curve shows. Shooting for maximum flexibility and result preferably in RAW format. The RAW image format contains much more data than JPEG and therefore gives you more freedom to include anything to post your photos to adapt. The quest for the perfect photo or film can be frustrating, but also so rewarding. Underwater you almost never know what you find and if you time it well also knows to capture. You can do your best to reduce the risk as large as possible. Let your advance well informed before you buy your stuff and leave, make sure your scuba gear and diving skills perfectly organized, read and learn especially underwater you know if your pocket. Preferably before it goes under water. Treat your underwater camera as your best friend / girlfriend. The same applies to the underwater world where you're a guest. Capture, enjoy and share.

Underwater photography is fun!
